Dehumidifiers
Where one house is too dry, others are too damp, making the air quality suspect. If you live in a region where the humidity averages about 60%, a dehumidifier makes life much more comfortable. Additionally, if you have damp spots in your home prone to mold, like a basement, small dehumidifiers resolve those space problems.
Like it’s humidifying sister, dehumidifiers can be noisy. On damp days you?ll need to run them nearly non-stop, so buy one that’s as quite as is comfortable for the machine?s location. Additionally, you need a machine that’s easily emptied.

Dehumidifiers
Once the water reservoir is full, most machines turn themselves off leaving stagnant water just sitting there (and you?re no longer getting the benefit of the drying). The easier the machine is to empty and clean, the healthier it is for your home.
Here are some other features to consider in your dehumidifier:
* A run off hose ? meaning you won’t have to empty the system ? water simply channels off to wherever you place the hose
* A humid-stat (this measures how much relative humidity is in the air so you can maintain a continuity in the home or room)
* Full tank indicator ? if you don?t have the run off, it?s nice to be signaled when you need to empty the tank
* Wheels for ease of movement and a handle. This makes the dehumidifier functional for various locations.
* Energy star rating for efficiency (these can save 15 or 20 pounds annually in electricity depending on the size of the system)
* Silent running (or nearly)
For those consumers thinking of getting or updating their central air, you can have a dehumidifier tied into this system. As with a humidifier this is typically a better option for whole house treatment.
