Home Weather Stations

Wouild’nt it be great to know when its about to frost, or when rain is coming, or even when you can expect severe weather and be able to plan ahead for it?
To be able to turn off your garden sprinkler because you’re in for a rainy day?
Many of us who live in climates that are prone to harsh  or violent weather install a home weather station.

Those which are made today are a far cry from the thermometer and rain gauge that were yesterdays weather stations.
They are simply smaller versions, and a bit less complex, than those used by the forecasters for the professional weather services.

Today’s home weather stations are simpler and smaller versions of the same instruments used by the professional weather forecasters.Davis company who make the weather pro, as well as LaCrosse weather stations are state of the art, cost a reasonable amount and will keep you in the know when the weather needs to be monitored, as well as to help you to offer data to your wather service to help them to gather local weather data.

It is more than possible to network your wireless receiver into your computer so that the information that is incoming is downloaded without any intervention on your part, into a software program, one of which is virtual weather station, that will let you create charts of your wather and store the information or else compare it with the weather service data.

Ross has networked his wireless receiver to his computer, so incoming data is automatically downloaded into a program called Virtual Weather Station. The program then allows Ross to create all kinds of charts and graphs, as well as store the information in a database.

Home weather stations are quite uncomplicated, are easy to install and easy to use.
Most of them come complete with every gauge thant you’re going to need and at best require a small post or a decent place to mount them.

My own personal weather station has wind speed, precipitation, barometric pressure, temperature, and several other functions.

Ideally you will place the wireless receiver to your weather station about 30-40 feet from trees, fencing or existing buildings although in some cases that won’t be possible.
YOu can still get an accurate reading if its in an open, sunny area, where it picks up sun, wind and precipitation.

The average wireless station will transmit the data in a line of sight, several hundred feet to get to the receiver.

Weather stations, decent ones that do a good job can be had for as little as 100 pounds, but may rise up to about 800 pounds in cost.
Still, if it can help you to know when bad weather, or frost is imminent, it just may save you that and more by using it.
