For people who love to sit in their yard, birds, insects and other small animals can sometimes cause problems. Birds, for example can be quite messy and may eat up the harvest from certain gardening efforts. To divert the birds, manufacturers have created electronic systems that make noise, effectively becoming a techno-scarecrow.

The machines of this nature produce sounds from different birds. Most machines have various settings so you can choose one that comes from a competitor for the territory or a predatory animal. Of course humans hear this noise too, so the question becomes one of how much of a pest the birds become compared to the sound of the system.

In terms of flying pests, just as indoor options - fly zappers work well for small areas, but shouldn’t be used near grills or any location where you’ll be eating outdoors. The alternative for those spaces are candles or other items that have aromatics like citronella that repel insects but isn’t unpleasant to human senses. Word of warning to birdwatchers – bugs attract birds to your yard. If you want a good variety of birds for viewing, use the bug zappers and aromatic deterrents with reserve so you don’t force the birds elsewhere.
