Scroll Saws

Remember high school woodshop, the scroll saws you used then?? BIG.. Clunky and hard to handle.
Welll todays scroll saws are nothing but nothing like those.. its a saw that everyone in the house can use.
Being one of the first girls in our school to take high school wood shop, I remember well how difficult it was, for several reasons.

Scroll saw prices can range from very inexpensive to very very costly

It was frustrating to say the least. Using a scroll saw today is a great deal more pleasant.. they are quiet, and relatively save.
Although, if you select the wrong one, that frustration may rear its ugly head again.

Before you buy, consider what you’re going to use it for.. You can get one that will make the cutouts you want to make or sell for under 200 dolllars, but if you’ve decided ahead of time that ou want to do the more intricate detailing, they you’re going to want a saw that has a few more features.

Scroll saws can be used to make everything from the most ornate hope chests, down to an old fashioned antique looking baby cradle, to the most incredible cut work nightstands if you get the one that will serve your purposes.

Buying one that won’t do what you want in the beginning, basing it simply on price, means that you’re going go get frustrated with all the things you can’t do and end up relegating the saw to the back of the garage or work shed and not using it.. and probably end up doing what we did.. Selling it, and buying the one we should have gotten in the first place.

The blade of a scroll saw goes up and down, a great deal like the sewing machine, and has teeth that face forward and down.
They can be:
Parallel arm, with pivot point and the blade moves in what is very nearly an absolute up and down motion. This is the safest because if your blade breaks it stops nearly immediately.

Double Parallel Link which is the newest and latest in the scroll saw, and has two parallel arms that go back and forth.

C-Arm., which is just want it says. I’m not overly impressed with the safety of this one for a family saw. When or if a blade breaks the top part of the blade just keeps going up and down until you shut off the saw.

To make your best choice for a saw, thing throuigh what you really want to do. Is this going to be a weekend hobby, or is is something you are going to use fairly consistently and do a lot of.. You can pay as little as 60 Pounds for a saw such as this, or as much as 500 pounds or more.
Using it once in a while, purchase a middle of the road saw, but if you’re going to be doing crafting or some other effort that will take a great deal of time and effort and will put your saw into regular use, or for highter quality, you’re going to want to purchase the best that you can buy and it won’t be wort your time to get the 40 pound, does a few things saw, when in reality,. you’re going to need more.
